My Background

I received my Bachelor of Science degree (major in Psychology, minor in Criminology) from the University of Toronto in 1990.  I received the Master of Education degree (Counselling Psychology) from the University of Alberta in 1998 and was Registered as a Psychologist in the province of Alberta in 2000.  From 1990 through 2000 I worked in several positions that mainly involved assisting adults and adolescents with sexual offending behaviours, as well as with survivors of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.   I also worked as an educational consultant, completing assessments and consulting in schools providing support to teachers, students, and parents.

In 2000 I began my own practice, and as a Registered Psychologist in private practice, my focus has shifted somewhat: I continue to work with survivors of childhood abuse, but I no longer work with people who are sexually aggressive.  Between 1995 and 2014 I completed many assessments on children and adults in the school system, focused on learning difficulties, behavioural disorders, emotional functioning, and neurodevelopmental disorders. I currently do not do assessments (although I have left the assessment pages posted for the sake of general information). I now only do therapy with adults, and my main areas of focus include ADHD, childhood trauma, workplace bullying, and relationships.

I enjoy professional presentations and have led workshops on learning disabilities, ADHD, workplace bullying, personality disorders, behavioural management within the classroom, and sexual development in children.  I also have been a Sessional Lecturer at Concordia University College of Alberta, where I taught courses in Introductory Group Therapy and Human Sexual Behaviour.  I have also taught Introductory Psychology, Ethics, and Introduction to Personality.

In 2019-2020 I created a series of videos to help adults with ADHD understand some of their challenges, and to provide practical strategies that work for adults with ADHD. You can find more information about this at aaa.cambiumed.ca/. I have also developed a training program for therapist who treat adults with ADHD - you can find information at btac.cambiumed.ca.

I am currently a professional member of the College of Alberta Psychologists, Psychologists’ Association of Alberta, Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance, and International Association on Workplace Bullying and Harassment.

Areas of Special Interest

My interests have continued to evolve over time. Over the last two decades I have become increasingly focused on working with adults with ADHD and I have developed a novel understanding of and approach to treating ADHD. I have developed a strong interest in workplace bullying and am a member of the International Association on Workplace Bullying and Harassment, Therapists' Special Interest Group. I was a co-author of a chapter about the role of counsellors in workplace bullying that was published in 2019. In the last few years I have renewed my interest in hypnosis and became trained as a registered Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapist. I have developed a program to train other hypnotherapists in the area of sleep disorders. In addition, in 2019 I completed Level 1 training in Brain Working Recursive Therapy.

I continue to learn and adapt what I know to new areas. I am incredibly grateful to my clients, who have taught me so much, and who have displayed so much courage in sharing their vulnerability with me.
